Is this you?

You are at secondary school

You like trains . . . a lot

You want to develop this interest into something serious

This site can help you

First of all . . . how serious?

I’ve outgrown my trainset and I want bigger and better

I want to volunteer on a heritage railway

I want to work in the rail industry

These things are not mutually exclusive (you can choose more than one) – they're just a guide to this site!

For example, if you volunteer on a heritage railway, it might help you get a job in the rail industry.

More than a few people who work in the rail industry have model railways too!

Some people have amazing model railways but do other jobs in "real life" that they also enjoy.

Socrates was a very wise philosopher who said "know thyself"  Do you? Really?

Can you answer these questions?

Do you think it’s all about being a train driver, or do you know how the railways work and all the different kinds of jobs that are done?

How much are the subjects you're good at and enjoy most to do with trains and railways?

Will you do A levels, BTECS or something else?  Why?

Do you intend to get a job as soon as you can leave school, go to university or serve an apprenticeship?    Why?

When you have good and bad days, do you think about why they were good or bad?

Where will you find good advice?   How do you know it will be good?

Here's some advice.  Keep your options open by taking your education to the highest level you can.  Never burn a bridge! (and in this day and age, that includes being very careful what you post in social media! If in doubt, don't post.)
